I woke up unfortunately early, but pleasantly, to the voice of my beloved on the phone.
We were out of milk and bananas- the breakfast staples- so I got us all dressed and off we went, before 8 am, to the store.
It was actually a long walk to Vons, but interesting to see the older houses on the way. We went by the new complex going up, and this is what I love- the buildings here in Oxnard are lovely. The colors are warm, there are stylistic eccentricities, and the landscaping is inviting. They've named the newest part of the harbor, "Seabridge" because of the walking bridge that crosses the channel, and I have changed my most ideal place to live from San Diego to Oxnard-all because of Seabridge.
I'm not really a country girl.
I like that there is a boardwalk of sorts all around the new buildings. I like the "fitness walk." I like the play areas scattered around, like jewels in a crown.
I like the sculpture of the children playing pirate- not just sculpture, but fountain. I like the proximity of Starbucks, and Coffeebean, and restaurants and Verizon stores. I like whatever the new stores might be- this is the Valley girl in me.
We got child-size steamers, a lemon poppy seed loaf, a raspberry cheese danish, a croissant and a honey bran muffin for me- to go along with my caramel-cinnamon latte. We went to the big boat play area(not the fountain) and ate breakfast. I fed the baby oatmeal-peach-banana organic baby food and croissant, and the kids went crazy on the boat. I went on the boat for a while, as well.
We crossed the bridge and went from fitness area to fitness area. I think I'm in love. We went to Vons, bought a quarter watermelon and yogurt drinks for lunch and got home at 12:30pm. The walk home took about a half-hour.
Since then we have watched a couple shows, played some games, read a book and snacked. Nanny came home, and I've been blogging, without pictures.
I forgot my camera. It could have been a great post.
for incredible feats of tremendous noise and nearly relentless activity...

don't worry bra (braugh?), it is a great post. all that across from my old apartment...kinda heartbreaking :)
it WAS a great post & I can't be anything but a bit jealous of the "treasures" you have around you. Here, just shy of Houghton, NY - there isn't much, but we make do...
But wow - what I would do for a raspberry cheese danish with a Caramel Mochiota...
I could get one, if I wanted to take a 2 hour drive!
BUT, I am near family & that - I wouldn't give up!
I love the sense of place all of your posts have. Even without a camera.
Sounds like a really great vacation.
C'mon Friday!
California wins.
