We went on a lovely couples retreat this weekend, but since Lucy is still solely breast-fed, it was only a retreat from Bowden and our house and work. It was still very pleasant. One baby, at nine months old, is so much easier to bring along, take around, and go out with. I'd forgotten- mostly because Bowden is such a whirlwind.
He stayed with his Nanny, and while happy to see us, did not seem to be too terribly interested in coming home. When Josh picked him up, after telling us he loved us, he said, "I want to live at Nanny's house forever."
He had popcorn and stayed up late Friday, went to a cousin's birthday party at the park on Saturday, ate lots and lots of candy and sweets, was given a new football and a new table with two chairs, and on Sunday got cheese blintzes and went to the park again. When we came to pick him up his cup was full of orange Tang. What is so appealing about home, again?
Lucy was excited to see Bowden again. He makes her laugh the way no one else can- without some tickling and raspberry blowing, at least. She liked the new table, and did her best impersonations of some drinking too much vodka from a bottle. (Bowden is the kindly, accepting bartender ready to pour her another one.)

Mom said that she was "utterly exhausted" and I got a lovely message from them telling me to come visit... My, but you do have the most beautiful children I have ever seen...

That table is the coolest. Bowden will probably want you guys to adventure away every weekend now.

(I'd watch his liberal hands at the bar, though; that sweet little one doesn't seem dry for vodka just yet.)
