There are multitudes of huge rocks...also known as boulders...here in Idyllwild. You would think that more locals would be aware of the numbers...but they aren't.
How do I know this? The fact that every Idyllwilder gives directions that go something like, "and turn right at the big rock." Which invariably leads to discussions in the car that go something like, "Is that it? Or is it that one? Which big rock!!!!?"
This big rock is one of many found in the lovely county park. We took a loonnggg walk there, and Josh stopped for some climbing.
Bowden climbed a little rock....
...but really wanted to get to the top of the big one with his dad.
for incredible feats of tremendous noise and nearly relentless activity...

what a beautiful, magical spot.
i've always wanted to follow directions that included, "turn left at the big rock." guess i'll have to come visit.
I love your stories, Sarah. You make everyday events into humorous adventures. And locals everywhere seem to suffer from that same type of malady. In Hawaii they told me to turn left when I got to the big tree!
(They didn't know the street name.)
What a cool place. Millie is baffled by Josh's powers. How...HOW did he get UP there? I keep explaining how people use there arms and legs, but it's still a mystery.
