A preview of this years Halloween outfit- on sale at Old Navy, and already mall-tested and stranger ahhed and oohed.

I came down one morning to find Josh and Lucy engaged in some daughter-daddy play. I watched too long, remembered my camera, and missed it the first time. Happily, both Josh and Lucy were up for more fun time, so while this is a little more staged than it should have been, Lucy's joy is totally authentic.

The all-church picnic here in Idyllwild is a summers-end staple up on the hill. Five different Christian churches get together and have a group baptism and picnic, and it just happens to happen at Camp Maranatha, pretty much in my front yard.
Lucy decided that she belonged in this low, purple, folding chair, and did not care that Mr. Hoetger did not seem to enjoy her there at all. We called to her, but the only thing that really made her want to leave her chair was some watermelon and doritos.
Bowden sat down for maybe two minutes all together, but that is a generous estimate.

We went to the Los Angeles zoo on Wednesday for Jim Richard's birthday- he's the big one. I feel a little gluttonous...I have been on so many zoo trips recently, and I love them so much. It's like having dessert with every meal.
I love the Richard family- I intruded on their family holiday, and they made me feel like a guest. It was hot, very, very hot. I am empty of words tonight, but have been feeling neglectful. I should have just written, "This is what we did on Wednesday."
